Cut the cost of a heat pump, solar or a battery with the new government-backed loan
The Warm Homes Loan Scheme is expected to open in September 2026 at rates up to 5 points below market, on top of grants already live today. Check every funding route you qualify for in about a minute.
- Grants of £7,500 live now for heat pumps
- Loans cover radiators and pipework, not just the pump
- Owner-occupiers and landlords both eligible
One loan scheme, sitting on top of the grants you can already claim
The Warm Homes Loan Scheme is a government-backed lending scheme expected to open to the public in September 2026. It reduces the loan against a low-carbon home upgrade by up to 5 percentage points and puts a grant of up to 20% of the loan straight against what you owe. It works alongside grants like the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme, not instead of them.

Three routes, and most homes can use more than one
Which ones fit you depends on where you live, whether you own or rent, your income and your home's EPC. The wizard works this out for you. Here is the shape of it.
Warm Homes Loan Scheme
A low-rate loan for anyone, opening September 2026. Covers heat pumps, solar, batteries and rural biomass, including the radiators and pipework a heat pump needs. Does not cover insulation.

A grant of £7,500 towards an air or ground source heat pump in England and Wales, live today and confirmed until 2029/30. Stacks with the loan for the balance.
How the two stackWarm Homes: Local Grant
Fully funded measures for lower-income households in England with an EPC of D to G. Covers insulation, solar and heat pumps where suitable. Runs April 2025 to March 2028.
Check if you qualifyThe best part: you can use a grant and the loan together
This is what most people miss. A grant and the Warm Homes Loan are not an either-or choice. You take the grant first, then borrow the rest at a low rate, so a full upgrade can cost far less up front than you would think.
Take the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, then use the Warm Homes Loan for the balance, up to £20,000 and including radiators and pipework. Grant plus loan can cover the whole job, and you only repay the part you borrowed. Add solar and a battery and you can stack those on the loan too, at £15,000 each.
| Feature | Grants (BUS, Local Grant) | Warm Homes Loan | Together |

| Heat pump | £7,500 grant | up to £20,000 | Grant off first, borrow the balance |
| Solar and battery | Local Grant only, if eligible | up to £15,000 each | Fund both on the loan |
| Insulation | Yes, if eligible | Not covered | Grant covers insulation, loan covers the rest |
