Solar panels: costs, savings and funding
Last reviewed: 20 July 2026
Solar costs around £1,450 per kWp installed, so a typical home system comes to roughly £6,400, with 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. You save on the electricity you use and earn on what you export. The Warm Homes Loan can fund up to £15,000.
Savings and payback
How much you save depends on your bill, roof direction, shading and whether you add a battery. A battery lets you use more of what you generate rather than exporting it cheaply. Our calculator sizes a system from your bill and estimates the payback year.
