How much do solar panels cost?

Solar costs about £1,450 for each kWp of capacity, so a typical 4.4kWp system comes to around £6,400. Solar carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, which saves you paying VAT on the install.
Adding a battery
A home battery typically adds around £5,000. It stores electricity you generate during the day for use in the evening, so you buy less from the grid and export less at the lower Smart Export Guarantee rate. Whether it pays depends on your usage pattern, which our calculator lets you test.
The Warm Homes Loan can fund solar up to £15,000 and a battery up to £15,000, at a rate up to 5 points below a normal loan.
