Biomass boilers for rural homes

A biomass boiler burns wood pellets or logs to heat your home. It typically costs £14,000 to £22,000 installed. The Warm Homes Loan can fund up to £20,000, but only for rural homes without a mains gas connection.
Is it right for your home?
Biomass suits rural, off-gas properties with space to store fuel. For most homes on or near the gas grid, an air source heat pump is usually the better low-carbon choice, and it attracts the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant that biomass does not. It is worth comparing both before deciding.
